Dr Al Muderis - Orthopaedic Surgeon

photoDr. Al Muderis, MB ChB FRACS, FAOrthA, is an orthopaedic surgeon and a clinical lecturer at Macquarie University and The Australian School Of Advanced Medicine, specialising in Hip, Knee and Trauma Surgery for the Adult and Paediatric population.

He has special expertise in hip arthroscopy, for femoral-acetabular impingement syndrome as well as soft tissue damage to the hip.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Al Muderis, has formal training in Europe on the anterior approach to total hip replacement.  Anterior Minimally Invasive Hip Surgery is gaining significant popularity worldwide. He also has special interest in ACL reconstruction using anatomy preserving technology and total knee replacementusing computerised navigation technology.

Dr. Al Muderis is one of a handful of orthopaedic surgeons world-wide who has a special expertise in trans-femoral and trans-humeral amputations. We are able to provide our patients with robotic artificial limbs using transcutaneous osseointegrated technology. This is designed to be as close to the human anatomy as possible. To this end we established a monthly osseointegration clinic at the Macquarie University Hospital.

Dr. Al Muderis is the founder of the Osseointegration Group of Australia.

Dr. Al Muderis operates from Macquarie University Hospital, Norwest Private Hospital, Bella Vista, and the SAN Clinic, with consulting rooms at Bella Vista, Macquarie University, Wahroonga, and Drummoyne.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He is also a member of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy and Orthopaedic Surgical Osseointegration Society.

In the years 2008-2010 he completed three post specialisation fellowships including:

  • Lower limb Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty fellowship at the Emil Von Behring Klinikum Berlin, Germany.
  • Trauma fellowship at the Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin, Germany.
  • Robotic leg surgery post-specialisation training with Dr. Horst Aschoff – Lubeck, Germany.
  • Lower limb Arthroplasty fellowship at the Sydney Adventist and Baulkham Hills Hospitals.

He is a supervisor of overseas trained orthopaedic surgeons (Fellows) in Hip and Knee pathology. He is also a supervisor of the local Australian Orthopaedic Trainee Registrars throughout the abovementioned medical centres.
